Tirupati police arrested a man who allegedly posed as an IPS officer and cheated several people by promising government jobs. The accused, identified as Surya, reportedly created fake identity cards claiming he worked as an IPS officer and as an NIA employee in Delhi. Police took action after receiving multiple complaints about his activities.
According to investigators, Surya used forged ID cards to gain the trust of job seekers. He approached individuals with promises of securing positions in central government departments. In one case, he allegedly collected ₹1.5 lakh from a Rapido driver by assuring him a job in the Income Tax Department. When the promised appointment never materialised, the victim approached the police.
Fake Identity Cards Used to Gain Trust
Police officials said the accused designed fake identification cards that carried the names of prestigious agencies. By projecting himself as a senior officer, he convinced victims that he influenced recruitment processes. As a result, several people believed his claims and transferred money to him.
However, suspicions grew when candidates failed to receive appointment letters. Soon after, victims filed formal complaints, prompting a detailed inquiry. Tirupati police registered a case and launched an investigation into the alleged fraud network.
Police Investigation and Arrest
During the probe, officers verified the authenticity of the documents used by Surya. They found that the ID cards were fabricated and that he had no connection with the IPS or the National Investigation Agency. Based on evidence and victim statements, police arrested him and seized fake documents and digital devices used in the scam.
Authorities are now examining whether more victims fell prey to the fake IPS officer. They also suspect that the accused may have targeted unemployed youth who were actively seeking government jobs.
Police urged the public to verify credentials before trusting anyone who claims to offer government employment. Officials emphasised that recruitment into central services follows official procedures and never requires private payments.
The arrest of the fake IPS officer in Tirupati highlights the growing need for awareness against job fraud scams. Meanwhile, investigators continue to gather further evidence to determine the full extent of the cheating case.
