The winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will take home a record-breaking prize money of ₹451 crore, marking a significant jump from previous editions. FIFA has sharply increased the total prize pool as the tournament expands and global interest continues to grow.
Prize Money Sees Major Increase
In the 2022 World Cup, champions Argentina earned ₹379 crore. Compared to that edition, FIFA has raised the overall prize money by 48.9 percent for the 2026 tournament. The total prize pool has increased from ₹3,971 crore in 2022 to ₹5,911 crore this time, setting a new benchmark in international football.
Group Stage and Participation Benefits
All 48 teams participating in the group stage will receive ₹81 crore each. In addition, FIFA will provide ₹13.53 crore per team to support tournament preparations. This move aims to ease logistical and training expenses for national sides.
Knockout Stage Rewards
Teams that advance to the Round of 32 will earn ₹99.27 crore each. Reaching the pre-quarterfinals will fetch ₹135 crore, while quarterfinalists will receive ₹171 crore per team. The prize money continues to rise sharply as teams progress deeper into the tournament.
Top Finishers’ Earnings
The team finishing fourth will earn ₹243 crore, while the third-placed side will pocket ₹261 crore. The runners-up will receive ₹297 crore. Finally, the champions will secure the highest-ever World Cup prize money of ₹451 crore.
Club World Cup Comparison
Interestingly, FIFA continues to award higher prize money to club competitions. Chelsea earned ₹1,128 crore for winning the 2025 Club World Cup. FIFA officials note that club teams face higher operational and player management costs, which justifies the larger payouts.
With record prize money and an expanded format, the FIFA World Cup 2026 promises to be the most lucrative and competitive edition in the tournament’s history.
