The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly denied reports suggesting that Gautam Gambhir will be removed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The board has called such claims baseless and misleading.
Over the past few days, speculation intensified after Team India delivered below-par performances in recent Test matches. As a result, several social media posts and media reports claimed that the BCCI was considering replacing Gambhir, at least in the Test format. Some reports even suggested that former cricketer VVS Laxman was in talks with the board.
However, the BCCI has now put an end to all such rumours.
BCCI Confirms Gambhir’s Contract Till 2027
Speaking to a national news channel, BCCI Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the reports outright. He clarified that the board has not held any discussions about removing Gambhir from his role.
“The news of Gautam Gambhir being replaced is completely false,” Saikia said. “Our contract with him runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup. There are no plans to change the coaching setup. We have full faith in him.”
Moreover, Saikia expressed concern over the spread of unverified information. He stated that such rumours only create unnecessary confusion among fans and players.
No Changes in Team India’s Coaching Structure
Importantly, the BCCI has made it clear that Gambhir will continue as the head coach across all formats. The board has not assigned Test responsibilities to anyone else, nor has it approached any former players for the role.
With this clarification, the uncertainty surrounding Gambhir’s position appears to be over. The BCCI’s strong statement reinforces its confidence in the current coaching leadership.
As Team India prepares for upcoming international assignments, Gambhir is expected to continue working closely with players to improve performances and results. For now, the board’s message is clear — Gautam Gambhir remains firmly in charge.
