Karnataka Government Allows Early Liquor Sales on December 31
As the country prepares to bid farewell to 2025 and welcome 2026, the Karnataka government has announced a key decision regarding liquor sale timings for New Year celebrations. Since December 31 traditionally records the highest liquor sales of the year, the government has relaxed timings to manage demand smoothly.
Liquor Sales Permitted from 6 AM on December 31
The Karnataka government has granted special permission to begin liquor sales from 6 am on December 31. Normally, liquor outlets open later in the day. However, this relaxation applies only for one day to accommodate New Year rush.
Officials clarified that liquor sales will be allowed from 6 am on December 31 until 1 am. After that, all sales must stop without exception.
Order Applies to All Liquor Outlets
This decision applies uniformly to bars, pubs, wine shops, clubs, and other licensed liquor outlets across the state. As a result, many people planning New Year celebrations have welcomed the move.
At the same time, the government has emphasized the need for discipline and public safety during celebrations.
Private Parties Also Face Time Restrictions
The same timing restrictions apply to CL-5 licence holders, who are permitted to host private events. While such organisers can usually serve liquor round the clock, the government has ordered that all events must conclude between 6 am and 1 am on December 31.
Strict Action for Rule Violations
The government has issued a clear warning that selling or supplying liquor after 1 am will invite strict legal action. Penalties may include license cancellation and legal proceedings.
Officials stressed that while celebrations are welcome, they must remain within legal limits to ensure public safety and order during New Year festivities.
