A bizarre marital dispute has surfaced in Greater Noida, where a woman has approached the police alleging that her husband cheated her by hiding his baldness before marriage and falsely claiming that he had thick hair. The complaint, which has now turned into a criminal case, also includes serious allegations of physical abuse, blackmail, and pressure to engage in illegal activities.
Allegations of deception before marriage
According to a PTI report, the complainant, Lavika Gupta, a resident of Gaur City Avenue-1, married Sanyam Jain on January 16, 2024. Lavika told the police that before the wedding, she was informed that her prospective husband had thick hair. However, after marriage, she allegedly discovered that he was bald and used a hair patch or wig to conceal it.
Moreover, Lavika claimed that the alleged deception did not stop with physical appearance. She accused her husband of misrepresenting his educational qualifications and financial status as well. As a result, she stated that she felt cheated and misled on multiple counts soon after the marriage.
Claims of abuse and blackmail
As the relationship deteriorated, Lavika alleged that her husband began physically abusing her. She further claimed that he blackmailed her by threatening to make her private photos public. According to her complaint, this harassment caused her severe mental distress and fear.
In addition, she alleged that her husband assaulted her during a foreign trip. She also claimed that he pressured her to bring ganja from Thailand, which she refused. These allegations added a serious criminal dimension to what initially appeared to be a domestic dispute.
Police action and investigation
Following the complaint, the police registered a case at the Bisrakh police station in Greater Noida. Police officer Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that a case has been filed against Sanyam Jain and four other members of his family.
The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act. Meanwhile, the police have launched a detailed investigation to verify the allegations made by the complainant.
Case draws public attention
The unusual nature of the complaint, particularly the allegation related to hiding baldness before marriage, has attracted widespread public attention. However, police officials stressed that they are treating the case seriously due to the multiple allegations involving abuse, cheating, and illegal activities.
Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation, officials added.
