Tension gripped Anantapur district after two men misused a car sticker bearing the name of Guntakal MLA Gummanur Jayaram. The incident caused fear among motorists and led to swift police action.
Locals complained that the men were drunk and stopping vehicles on the road. They were seen threatening people and creating trouble late at night. Alarmed commuters immediately informed the police.
Police teams rushed to the spot to control the situation. During the attempt to detain one suspect, the suspect tried to flee in the car. He also attempted to hit police personnel with the vehicle. A patrolling constable narrowly escaped injury.
Police chased the car and stopped it within a short distance. On checking the vehicle, officers found Ajay, a rowdy-sheeter from Guntakal, along with another man. Both were taken into custody on the spot.
A case was registered for misusing an MLA name sticker and for threatening the public. Police officials warned that strict action would be taken against those who misuse political identity stickers.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the illegal use of official stickers and the growing misuse of authority on public roads.
