A businessman from Guntur has created a sensation across the country by setting an unprecedented record in India’s automobile space. Kiran Kolpakula stunned the luxury market after he spent a massive ₹2.08 crore to acquire a single vintage vehicle number plate, making it the most expensive number plate ever sold in India.

In India, fancy vehicle numbers have long symbolised prestige and social status. Many buyers willingly spend lakhs to secure special combinations. However, this deal crossed all previous limits and redefined how collectors value rare registration numbers.

Historic Auction at Big Boy Toys

The record-breaking purchase took place at the Big Boy Toys Auction House, a newly launched premium platform by luxury automobile dealer Big Boy Toys. The auction focused on rare and exclusive collectables, including vintage number plates with historic value.

Notably, the DDC 001 number plate originally belonged to Big Boy Toys founder Jatin Ahuja. Because of its rarity and legacy, the plate attracted intense competition from wealthy bidders across India. Ultimately, Kiran Kolpakula placed the highest bid and secured the iconic number.

Why DDC 001 Holds Exceptional Value

Fancy numbers like “001” traditionally represent authority, power, and royalty. Moreover, collectors consider such numbers as long-term assets rather than simple registration identifiers. As a result, demand for rare combinations continues to rise in elite circles.

Earlier, a similar bid in Haryana crossed ₹1 crore but failed after the bidder did not complete payment. In contrast, this transaction concluded smoothly, and Big Boy Toys confirmed full transparency. Consequently, the DDC 001 deal now stands as India’s costliest confirmed number plate sale.

Luxury Cars and Rare Collectables Draw Attention

In addition to number plates, the auction showcased several celebrity-owned luxury vehicles. These included actress Shilpa Shetty’s Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600, filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Mercedes-Benz CLA 200d, and cricketer Dinesh Karthik’s Range Rover Sport SVR.

Furthermore, premium watches from Rolex and Hublot, along with rare mobile numbers such as 999999999X, witnessed strong bidding interest. This response clearly highlighted the growing appetite for luxury collectables in India.

Tier-2 Cities Enter the Luxury Spotlight

Experts believe this historic purchase signals a shift in India’s luxury market. Increasingly, buyers from Tier-2 cities like Guntur are competing with metro-based collectors. As a result, the luxury ecosystem is expanding beyond traditional hubs.

Reacting to the development, Jatin Ahuja said the auction proved that Indian collectors willingly invest heavily in rare and high-quality assets. With this landmark deal, Guntur has firmly earned national attention in India’s luxury market.
