In a shocking crime, a woman allegedly murdered her husband with the help of her lover and another accomplice, then tried to pass off the killing as a heart attack. Medipalli police arrested the accused on Monday after an investigation exposed the conspiracy.
According to Medipalli Inspector Govinda Reddy, V.J. Ashok (45) and J. Purnima (36), natives of Bengaluru, married in 2011 and have a 12-year-old son. The family lived in East Brindavan Colony, Boduppal. Ashok worked as a logistics manager at an engineering college in Yamnampet, while Purnima ran a playschool from home.
Police said Purnima developed an extramarital relationship with Mahesh (22), a construction worker from Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, while the family earlier lived in another part of Boduppal. Ashok reportedly confronted his wife and later shifted the family to East Brindavan Colony. Despite this, the relationship continued, leading to frequent arguments.
Investigators revealed that Purnima decided to eliminate her husband and sought Mahesh’s help. Mahesh, in turn, brought in his friend Bhukya Saikumar (22) from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
On the evening of the 11th, Ashok returned home from college. Mahesh and Saikumar allegedly assaulted him and pushed him to the ground. While Purnima and Saikumar held him down, Mahesh tied three ropes around Ashok’s neck and strangled him. After confirming his death, the two men left the house.
Purnima then attempted to mislead police and relatives. She claimed that Ashok went to rest around 6 pm and later collapsed in the bathroom. She told police that doctors at the Malkajgiri government hospital declared him dead due to a heart attack and that there were no suspicious circumstances.
However, police registered a case of suspicious death after noticing injuries on the body. Officers reviewed CCTV footage near the house and found Mahesh and Saikumar visiting the residence on the day of the death. During questioning, the accused confessed, revealing the murder plot.
Police arrested Purnima, Mahesh, and Saikumar and sent them to judicial remand on Monday.
