Cyber Crime: Cybercrime cases in Hyderabad continue to remain a serious concern, with new data revealing a sharp rise in complaints and financial losses during March 2026. However, police recovery efforts and awareness initiatives are also showing positive results.

According to the latest report from the Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad City, authorities registered multiple cases across different fraud categories, highlighting both the growing threat and the ongoing crackdown.

Over 300 FIRs Registered
In March 2026, the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad registered 54 FIRs, while Zonal Cyber Cells added another 276 FIRs. These cases emerged from a total of 3,081 complaints received during the month. The numbers indicate a steady increase in cybercrime activities, with more victims coming forward to report incidents.

₹2.55 Crore Refunded to Victims
Despite the rise in cases, police managed to recover and refund over ₹2.55 crore to victims. Out of the total reported loss of ₹4.40 crore, ₹1.59 crore was successfully recovered in March alone. This reflects improved coordination, faster response, and better tracking of digital transactions by authorities.

Gaming Frauds Top the List
The majority of cybercrime cases were related to gaming, investment, and matrimonial frauds. Among these, gaming fraud emerged as the most common. Victims were often lured through fake online gaming platforms and promises of quick earnings, leading to significant financial losses.

Massive ₹26 Crore Gaming Fraud Case
One of the most shocking cases reported involved a gaming scam in which a victim lost over ₹26 crore. The victim was reportedly attracted through a fake online platform that promised high returns. This incident highlights how large-scale cyber fraud operations are targeting unsuspecting users.

Arrests and Seizures Across India
During the investigation, police arrested 24 accused from different parts of the country. Most of the accused were found to be from Telangana. Authorities also seized several items including cash, mobile phones, laptops, and cheque books. These recoveries indicate that many cybercrime operations are well-organized and operate in networks.

Digital Arrest and Investment Scams Cause Heavy Losses
Apart from gaming fraud, investment scams and so-called “digital arrest” scams resulted in the highest financial losses. In such cases, victims are threatened or manipulated into transferring money under false claims, making them highly dangerous.

Cyber Patrol Removes Fake Profiles
As part of preventive action, cyber patrol teams removed 129 fake social media profiles that were promoting illegal betting advertisements. This step is expected to reduce the spread of fraudulent schemes and protect potential victims from falling into traps.

Awareness Programs Making Impact
Awareness initiatives like C-MITRA and Cyber Simba have played a key role in educating the public. These programs have reached nearly two lakh people, helping them understand cyber risks and safety measures. As a result, daily complaint numbers have reduced from around 80 to 60, indicating improved awareness among citizens.

The March 2026 cybercrime report highlights a worrying rise in online frauds but also showcases strong police action and improved recovery mechanisms. With increasing digital usage, cybercrime threats are expected to grow. Authorities emphasize that public awareness, timely reporting, and caution are crucial to preventing financial losses.
