Dense fog covered several suburbs of Hyderabad in the early hours of Friday, severely affecting road traffic and daily commuters. Due to extremely low visibility, motorists struggled to see vehicles ahead, leading to traffic congestion across major highways and arterial roads.
Several outskirts recorded near-zero visibility, including Ibrahimpatnam, Nagarjunasagar Highway, Medchal, Thoonkunta, Shamirpet, Gandipet, Mokila, Patancheru, Vikarabad, Rajendranagar, and Adibatla. As a result, office-goers and early-morning travelers faced major delays and safety concerns.
The impact was most severe on the Shamshabad Airport route and the Bengaluru National Highway. Drivers halted their vehicles on the roadside as visibility dropped sharply. Consequently, a traffic jam stretching nearly 10 kilometers formed between Shamshabad and Palamakulam, causing long delays for passengers heading towards the airport.
Fog also disrupted traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Vehicles moved slowly with headlights on, while commuters reported poor visibility even under streetlights. Authorities monitored the situation closely to avoid accidents during peak morning hours.
Meanwhile, similar conditions prevailed on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway. At Abdullapurmet, fog reduced visibility to such an extent that vehicles just ten feet away were barely visible. Motorists relied heavily on headlights, indicators, and hazard lights while navigating the highway at low speeds.
Traffic police and transport officials urged commuters to remain cautious. They advised drivers to avoid speeding, maintain safe distances, and use fog lights wherever possible. Officials also warned that temperatures may drop further in the coming days, which could lead to continued foggy conditions across the region.
Authorities appealed to the public to plan travel accordingly and follow traffic advisories until visibility improves.
