Hyderabad: Ration card holders in Greater Hyderabad must complete e-KYC soon, or they may face a cut in ration supplies. Fair price shop dealers have warned beneficiaries to visit their nearest ration shops and submit biometric fingerprints without delay.
e-KYC Mandatory for All Ration Card Holders
According to dealers, e-KYC is compulsory for both new ration card holders and members recently added to existing cards. Officials clarified that every individual whose name appears on a ration card must complete the verification process.
Meanwhile, the Civil Supplies Department noted that the response from beneficiaries has remained low, even though the e-KYC process has been underway for the past two years. Despite multiple deadline extensions, many cardholders have not yet complied.
Ration Supplies May Be Stopped
As a result, officials have intensified awareness campaigns across the city. Dealers said they received verbal instructions from the department to stop ration distribution to cards that fail to complete e-KYC.
Therefore, beneficiaries have been urged to complete the process before next month’s quota distribution begins. Dealers also appealed to the public not to wait until the last minute.
Why e-KYC Is Required
Officials explained that e-KYC helps identify benami and bogus ration cards. Moreover, it plays a key role in removing duplicate cards and deceased beneficiaries from the system.
In addition, authorities said Aadhaar-related biometric issues often create problems during ration distribution. However, completing e-KYC can resolve these issues and ensure smooth access to essential supplies.
What Beneficiaries Should Do
Ration card holders are advised to visit their nearest fair price shop with Aadhaar details and complete biometric verification at the earliest. By doing so, they can avoid disruption in ration supplies and ensure continued eligibility.
