New Delhi:
Global technology giant IBM has announced a major opportunity for Indian youth, unveiling plans to train 5 million people in next-generation technologies by 2030. With artificial intelligence rapidly reshaping the global job market, IBM aims to equip young Indians with future-ready skills and improve their employability.
As AI adoption accelerates across industries, IBM plans to update skill sets in line with evolving technological trends. The company will focus on training youth in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Quantum Computing, which remain among the most in-demand fields worldwide. IBM said the initiative will help position India as a leader in the global digital economy.
Collaboration with Government Ministries
To implement the programme, IBM has partnered with key Indian government ministries, including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Through this collaboration, IBM will roll out training programmes across government schools, colleges, and vocational training centres.
The company plans to extend these courses to the grassroots level, ensuring access for students in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as well as rural areas. Officials said this approach will help bridge the digital skills gap between urban and rural youth.
Focus on Industry-Ready Skills
IBM will offer training from basic to advanced levels in AI tools, machine learning, and data analytics. Given the rise in online fraud and cyber threats, the programme will also educate students on data protection and cyber-attack prevention. In addition, IBM aims to develop skilled professionals in quantum computing, a field widely seen as the future of technology.
Addressing the Skill Gap
IBM India and South Asia Managing Director Sandeep Patel said India has an abundant talent pool but lacks adequate skill readiness. He noted that the initiative seeks to reduce the digital divide between rural and urban youth by providing practical, job-oriented training.
Free Courses and Better Job Prospects
Through the IBM SkillsBuild platform, students will gain access to free courses, hands-on projects, and real-world learning experiences. Beyond technical expertise, the programme will also focus on leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.
IBM said the training will improve employment prospects not only within the company but also across the broader IT industry. With global demand for AI-driven roles rising steadily, the initiative is expected to open new career pathways for millions of Indian youth.
