Frustration gripped cricket fans after the fourth T20 International between India and South Africa, scheduled to be played in Lucknow on Wednesday, was abandoned without even a toss due to dense fog.
Umpires inspected the ground multiple times from the evening onwards as visibility remained poor. After a final inspection at 9:25 pm, officials announced the cancellation of the match. The decision left thousands of spectators disappointed, forcing them to return home without witnessing any action.
Fans Express Anger Over Match Cancellation
Several fans openly expressed their anger at the stadium. Many said they had purchased tickets after spending a significant amount of money and demanded a full refund. Some spectators argued that a refund alone was not enough, stating that they had come specifically to watch Team India play.
A section of fans questioned the scheduling of the match. They pointed out that Lucknow had been experiencing foggy conditions for several days and suggested that an afternoon match could have avoided the situation.
What BCCI’s Refund Policy Says
As per the BCCI ticket refund policy, spectators are eligible for a refund if a match is abandoned without a single ball being bowled. Since the fourth T20I did not see any play, fans may receive their ticket money back, subject to official confirmation.
Series Situation After Match Abandonment
The abandoned match has not changed the overall outcome possibilities of the series. Team India currently leads the five-match series 2–1. With the fourth T20I washed out, South Africa no longer has a chance to win the series outright.
The fifth and final T20I will be played on Friday, December 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If India wins the match, the series will end 3–1 in their favour. If South Africa emerges victorious, the series will finish 2–2.
Team Updates
India will miss Axar Patel, who is sidelined due to illness, and Shubman Gill, who is out because of injury, in the remaining matches. Despite these setbacks, Team India remains in a strong position heading into the series decider.
Fans now hope for clear weather and uninterrupted action in Ahmedabad to end the series on a high note.
