Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, has introduced its first musical road, making a mark on the global map of innovative infrastructure. The Mumbai Coastal Road authorities launched this unique project, stretching from Nariman Point to Worli. Drivers will now experience a melody as they travel along this iconic stretch.
A Road That Sings
Hungarian technology was used to install several musical strips along the 700-meter stretch. When vehicles pass over them, they play the famous song “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire. Authorities designed the road to inspire patriotism and dedicate it to the nation. It turns daily commutes into a musical experience for residents and tourists alike.
Project Details and Costs
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out the project as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road corridor initiative. The authorities invested ₹6.21 crore to complete the road. With this project, India now joins countries like Hungary, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE, which already have musical roads.
Cultural and Technological Significance
Maharashtra Chief Minister inaugurated the road and emphasised its cultural and technological value. The project shows how cities can combine creativity, technology, and urban planning. It also encourages similar innovative projects across India in the future.
Driving to the Beat
The musical road not only entertains commuters but also highlights India’s ability to integrate technology with culture. Vehicles moving along the strips create a symphony under their wheels, offering drivers a unique and memorable journey.
