India registered a commanding seven-wicket win against New Zealand in Raipur, taking firm control of the five-match T20 series. Chasing a stiff target of 209 runs, India finished the job in just 15.2 overs, showcasing aggressive intent and depth in batting.
India’s chase began on a shaky note. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma departed early, putting the team under pressure within the first two overs. Samson edged a delivery from Henry to Rachin Ravindra, while Abhishek fell for a duck after offering a catch to Conway off Duffy’s bowling.
However, Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav quickly turned the game around. The duo attacked the New Zealand bowlers with confidence and clean hitting. Kishan raced to a half-century in just 21 balls and scored 76 runs before Henry caught him off Sodhi’s bowling at 128.
After that, Suryakumar Yadav stayed firm and continued the assault. He scored a fluent 82 runs, marking his first T20 half-century after 468 days. Shivam Dube added quick runs, smashing 36 not out, as India crossed the target with ease.
Earlier, New Zealand posted 208 for six after losing the toss. Mitchell Santner top-scored with 47 runs, while Seifert (24) and Conway (19) provided a brisk start. Later, Rachin Ravindra scored 44, but Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him at a crucial stage. Among Indian bowlers, Kuldeep claimed two wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Dube took one each.
With this win, India extended their lead to 2-0 in the series. The third T20 will be played in Guwahati on Sunday.
