The central government of India is preparing to implement age-based restrictions on social media usage, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw. The government has already held discussions with relevant tech companies to enforce these limits effectively.

International Models Inspiring India

India is looking at countries like France and Australia, where social media platforms enforce age-based restrictions for children. The move aims to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content and reduce the risks associated with excessive social media use.

Addressing Deepfakes and Child Safety

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government is also addressing issues like deepfakes and content moderation on social media platforms. Discussions with various companies are ongoing to implement strict age verification systems and ensure children’s online safety.

Future Outlook

Once implemented, these measures will make social media safer for children in India. The government believes that age-based restrictions, combined with technological solutions, can protect young users from harmful content while encouraging responsible digital engagement.
