Federal and local authorities in the United States have arrested an Indian-origin couple for allegedly running a large-scale sex trafficking and drug distribution racket from their own motel in Virginia. Investigators say the accused converted the property into a hub for prostitution and illegal drug sales, triggering a joint crackdown by the FBI and local police.
Motel Used as Hub for Illegal Activities
According to officials, the arrested couple has been identified as Kosha Sharma (52) and Tarun Sharma (55). They owned and operated a motel named Red Carpet Inn in Virginia. Instead of running a lawful hospitality business, authorities allege the couple deliberately used the third floor of the motel to conduct prostitution and drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, they rented rooms on the lower floors to regular guests, allowing the illegal activities to continue unnoticed. Investigators revealed that the couple collected a share of the profits earned through these unlawful operations.
Drug Sales and Forced Prostitution Exposed
In addition, the investigation uncovered large-scale drug sales involving dangerous narcotics such as fentanyl and cocaine. Court documents state that between May and August 2025, the FBI and local police conducted nine undercover operations at the motel.
During these operations, agents posed as customers and sex workers to gather evidence. Officials confirmed that undercover agents purchased drugs 15 times, including 11 fentanyl transactions and four cocaine deals.
More disturbingly, investigators found evidence that at least eight women were forced into prostitution. Authorities allege the accused physically abused the victims and restricted their movement to keep them under control.
Five Arrested in Joint FBI Operation
Along with the Indian-origin couple, police arrested three other individuals linked to the racket. They are Margo Pierce (51), Joshua Reddick (40), and Rashard Smith (33). Officials believe all five played active roles in managing the illegal network.
As a result, law enforcement agencies seized evidence and filed federal charges against the accused.
Severe Legal Consequences Ahead
Authorities have charged all five suspects with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and related offenses. If convicted, each accused could face a minimum prison sentence of 10 years under US federal law.
Meanwhile, officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. They also urged victims of human trafficking to come forward and seek help.
This shocking case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the growing focus of US authorities on dismantling organized crime networks involving sex trafficking and narcotics.
