Incident at Guangzhou Airport
Indian travel vlogger Ananth Mittal has alleged that Chinese authorities detained him for nearly 15 hours at Guangzhou airport. Mittal, who runs the popular travel page On Road India, shared the incident through a video on Instagram. He said the incident occurred on December 16 during his visit to China.
According to Mittal, he had travelled to China to meet a friend. During the immigration process at Guangzhou airport, a senior official separated him from other passengers. Officials then asked him to sit in a separate area. He claimed that authorities detained two other individuals from South Korea and Bangladesh at the same location.
Questioning and Seizure of Devices
Mittal stated that officials questioned him extensively and searched his luggage. He alleged that they seized his camera, mobile phone, and other electronic devices. He also claimed that authorities denied him food during the detention. Moreover, officials allegedly refused to allow him to contact the Indian Embassy in China.
After hours of questioning, authorities released him without giving a clear explanation. Mittal said the experience left him mentally shaken and distressed.
Link to Arunachal Pradesh Remarks
The vlogger believes his detention links to his earlier comments about Arunachal Pradesh. He recalled that Chinese officials recently detained a woman from Arunachal Pradesh at Shanghai airport. Mittal said he had studied in Arunachal Pradesh for three years and had earlier posted a video expressing concern over that incident.
He now alleges that Chinese authorities targeted him due to those remarks. Mittal has urged the Indian government to take note of the issue and seek clarification from China.
No Official Response Yet
So far, Indian authorities have not issued an official statement on the matter. The incident has triggered debate on social media, with many users expressing concern over the treatment of Indian citizens abroad.
The episode adds to ongoing tensions surrounding travel, speech, and regional sensitivities involving Arunachal Pradesh.
