Indonesian fast bowler Gede Priyanthana created history in international T20 cricket with a stunning bowling performance. He became the first bowler to take five wickets in a single over in the T20 format.
The record-breaking moment came on Tuesday during the first T20 match against Cambodia in Bali. Indonesia batted first and scored 167 runs. Opener Dharma Kesuma starred with an unbeaten 110, giving his team a strong platform.
While chasing 168, Cambodia showed resistance early. The team reached 106 for 5 in 15 overs and still had hopes of a competitive finish. However, Priyanthana changed the game in the very next over.
Bowling the 16th over, Priyanthana struck immediately. He dismissed three batters in the first three balls to complete a brilliant hat-trick. The fourth delivery resulted in a dot ball. He then claimed two more wickets off the final two balls. A wide delivery between the last balls added only one extra run.
Cambodia collapsed soon after and got bowled out for 107. Indonesia sealed a convincing 60-run victory.
Several legendary bowlers, including Lasith Malinga, Rashid Khan, and Jason Holder, have taken four wickets in a T20 over. However, Priyanthana stands alone with five. His remarkable spell has drawn global attention and marked a historic moment for Indonesian cricket.
