A tragic incident has shocked Secunderabad after a first-year Intermediate student died, allegedly due to severe stress following a public reprimand by her lecturers.
According to Maredupalli police, the 17-year-old girl was studying at MR Girls Government Junior College in West Maredupalli. On Thursday, she arrived at college nearly an hour late. Lecturers reportedly scolded her in front of her classmates, which left her deeply distressed.
After returning home, the student shared the incident with her mother. The mother tried to console her and advised her to speak to the lecturers later. However, the student soon complained of a severe headache and suddenly collapsed at home.
Family members rushed her to Malkajgiri Hospital for immediate treatment. As her condition worsened, doctors referred her to Gandhi Hospital for advanced care. Medical examinations, including a CT scan, revealed that she had suffered extreme stress and developed a blood clot in her brain. Doctors also noted that her left arm and leg had stopped functioning.
Despite treatment, the student died late on Thursday night, leaving her family and college community in grief.
Following her death, tension prevailed near the college on Friday morning. The girl’s parents, along with MRPS leaders and Osmania University students, staged a dharna in front of the college. Protesters demanded strict action against the lecturers involved and the college principal, alleging mental harassment.
Police have registered a case and stated that they are investigating all aspects of the incident. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
