Telangana: Jana Sena President and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced that the party has taken its “first step” in Telangana, where it was originally founded. Although the results were modest, the party is laying a strong foundation for future growth.
Election Wins and Performance
In the municipal elections, Jana Sena contested 332 seats across Telangana. The party won two seats:
Aruri Vijayalakshmi became a councillor in Nereducharla Municipality (Nalgonda district).
Aggu Sagar was elected as a corporator in the Mancherial Municipal Corporation.
The candidates also performed well in other areas. They finished second in five locations and third in 47 wards. Overall, Jana Sena outperformed at least one major party—Congress, BRS, or BJP—in 16% of the wards it contested.
Independent Strategy in Telangana
Although Jana Sena is part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Andhra Pradesh, the party contested Telangana independently. The BJP did not form any alliances this cycle.
The party focused its campaign on Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, and Adilabad districts to strengthen its presence and build a base for future elections.
Campaign Challenges and Controversies
Pawan Kalyan planned campaign visits on February 7 and 8, but the party cancelled them due to a minor health issue. Observers also noted tensions with Telangana politicians.
Earlier remarks by Kalyan about Telangana’s development and bifurcation drew criticism. Telangana Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reportedly threatened to block Kalyan’s films if he did not apologise for comments perceived as insulting to the state.
Looking Ahead
Despite limited wins, Pawan Kalyan compared the party’s presence in Telangana to a “tiny seed” that will grow into a large tree. He stressed that these early steps aim to establish a strong political foundation in the state.
With a focused strategy in key districts and continuous engagement, Jana Sena plans to expand its influence and challenge larger parties in future elections.
