Reliance Jio remains one of the most awaited IPOs in the Indian stock market. As India’s largest telecom operator with over 500 million users, the company continues to attract strong investor interest.
According to a recent Reuters report, Reliance Industries plans to sell a 2.5% stake in Reliance Jio through an initial public offering this year. The stake sale could help the company raise nearly $4 billion (around ₹36,000 crore). If completed, this issue may become the largest IPO in Indian market history.
Valuation Estimates and IPO Structure
Investment bank Jefferies has valued Reliance Jio at $180 billion. Based on this estimate, a 2.5% stake could fetch around $4.5 billion. However, the company has not yet decided whether it will sell existing shares or issue fresh equity.
Sources told Reuters that Morgan Stanley and Kotak Mahindra Bank are currently working on the IPO documentation. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries has not issued an official statement on the matter.
Why the Jio IPO Took Time
Mukesh Ambani first announced plans for the Jio IPO in 2019. Since then, the company has expanded beyond telecom into areas such as artificial intelligence and digital services. This expansion has significantly boosted its valuation and delayed the public listing.
Some global investment banks now estimate Jio’s valuation between $200 billion and $240 billion. Over the past few years, several global investors have invested heavily in Reliance Jio. Many of them are expected to partially exit during the IPO.
What Lies Ahead
Market experts believe the Jio IPO could reshape the Indian capital market landscape. Investors are now closely watching the final structure, valuation, and timeline of this landmark public offering.
