A tragic accident in Borlam village of Banswada mandal, Kamareddy district, claimed the life of an eighth-grade student after she fell from a moving auto-rickshaw. The incident occurred while students from an SC Gurukul Ashram School were returning furniture to the campus ahead of Republic Day preparations. The student, identified as Sangeeta, suffered a fatal head injury, triggering outrage over alleged negligence by school authorities.
According to reports, the school’s in-charge Principal allegedly instructed students to transport school furniture to her residence for a personal religious function. While bringing the furniture back to the school, the auto-rickshaw driver reportedly drove at high speed and failed to stop near the school gate.
Eyewitnesses said several students panicked when the vehicle did not slow down. Fearing danger, they jumped from the moving auto. During this chaos, Sangeeta fell and sustained severe head injuries.
Locals rushed the injured student to a government hospital. However, doctors declared her dead during treatment. Questions have also emerged over the auto driver’s conduct, with allegations that his reckless driving caused panic among the children.
Following public outrage, the government suspended the school’s in-charge Principal with immediate effect. Police registered a case against the auto-rickshaw driver and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
The Chief Minister’s Office announced an ex gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to Sangeeta’s family, who belong to Kodicherla village in Madnoor mandal. Meanwhile, family members and villagers staged protests outside the school, demanding strict action and better supervision in residential schools.
Officials confirmed that CCTV footage related to the incident has been secured and is under review. Authorities assured that further action would follow based on the investigation findings.
