A shocking honeytrap case has surfaced in Karimnagar, where a couple allegedly targeted over 100 men through social media and extorted large sums of money by blackmailing them. Police arrested the accused on Wednesday after a detailed investigation, exposing a three-year-long criminal operation driven by financial distress.
Business Losses Led to Crime
According to Karimnagar Rural CI Niranjan Reddy, the accused couple originally ran a marble business and interior decoration work after settling in Karimnagar. However, continuous losses pushed them into debt. As loan repayments and EMIs for their flat became difficult, they chose an illegal path to recover money instead of seeking lawful solutions.
Honeytrap Through Social Media
The woman allegedly posted attractive messages on social media platforms to lure men, including businessmen and young professionals. Once contact developed, she invited them to her apartment. During these private meetings, her husband secretly recorded videos without the victims’ knowledge.
Later, the couple contacted the victims and threatened to release the videos publicly. They demanded money to keep the footage private. Fearing social stigma, several victims paid large amounts. Police estimate that the couple trapped and blackmailed more than 100 men over the last three years.
Victim Complaint Exposes Racket
The case came to light after a lorry businessman from Karimnagar approached the police. He reportedly paid ₹13 lakh after being threatened with video exposure. Despite the payment, the couple demanded an additional ₹5 lakh and issued death threats. Unable to tolerate the pressure, the victim filed a formal complaint with police support from his family.
Police Action and Arrest
Based on the complaint, police launched an operation and arrested both accused. Officers recovered digital evidence and registered cases under relevant sections of law. The court later remanded the couple to judicial custody.
Warning to Public
Police have urged citizens to remain cautious while interacting with unknown persons on social media. Officials stressed that honeytrap and blackmail cases are increasing and advised people to report such incidents immediately without fear.
This Karimnagar crime highlights the dangers of online traps and the importance of prompt police action to prevent exploitation and financial fraud.
