Marking the 72nd birthday of BRS chief and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), supporters planted 10,000 mangrove saplings in the Sundarbans. The large-scale plantation drive highlighted a strong message of environmental protection and climate action.
Former MP Joginipally Santhosh Kumar led the initiative under the Green India Challenge. He stated that the plantation symbolises KCR’s long-standing commitment to environmental conservation. The event drew attention to the importance of restoring fragile coastal ecosystems.
Mangroves Play Key Role in Climate Protection
Mangrove plants reduce the impact of cyclones and coastal storms. They also absorb and store large amounts of carbon dioxide, which helps fight climate change. Therefore, experts consider mangroves vital for both environmental balance and disaster management.
Santhosh Kumar said the Green India Challenge has already planted millions of saplings across the country. He added that the inspiration came from Telangana’s “Haritha Haram” program, which KCR launched during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Green India Challenge Expands Nationwide
The plantation drive in the Sundarbans reflects the broader vision behind the Green India Challenge. Organisers aim to spread awareness about climate responsibility and sustainable development. Moreover, they encourage citizens to take part in protecting nature through community-driven efforts.
The event once again underlined KCR’s association with large-scale green initiatives. Supporters described the plantation as a meaningful tribute that combines celebration with environmental responsibility.
