In Kovvur, West Godavari district, police have arrested a gang involved in distributing fake currency. Authorities detained three individuals and recovered counterfeit notes worth ₹1,45,500 from them.
The incident traces back to Gopalapuram Mandal, where a man named Jakku Shivaji from Karagapadu was approached by the suspects, including Aleti Chandrashekhar and Lagu Srinu. The gang promised Shivaji seven fake notes for every one rupee.
Believing their scheme, Shivaji went to Kapavaram Tirumala School in Kovvur Mandal. There, the suspects gave him fake notes worth ₹15 lakh in exchange for ₹1.50 lakh in cash. Shivaji later realised the notes were labelled “Child Bank of India”, realising he had been cheated.
Shivaji immediately reported the fraud to the Kovvur Rural Police. Under the supervision of Rural DSP Devakumar and CI Vijaybabu, Rural SI Srihari arrested the suspects and sent them for remand.
The police have urged the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious currency activities to authorities.
