Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh – The Tirumala laddus controversy has taken a serious turn. A SIT report revealed that LABSA, a chemical used in toilet cleaners, was allegedly mixed into the famous laddus. LABSA, or Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonic Acid, is strictly for industrial cleaning. Experts warn it should never enter food preparation.
Investigators said the chemical resembles substances in products like Harpic, which are meant for toilets. Authorities expressed shock that such a hazardous chemical reached food consumed by thousands of devotees daily.
Bholebaba Dairy ordered 8,900 kilograms of LABSA. This raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety. The incident exposed negligence in laddus preparation and sparked public outrage. People now demand stricter monitoring of food supplied at religious sites.
