A major drinking water pipeline burst in Manikonda on Sunday, triggering a severe flooding incident now widely referred to as the Manikonda pipeline burst. The pipeline carries water from Singur to Hyderabad. After it ruptured, large volumes of water gushed out and inundated nearby residential colonies and surrounding apartment complexes.
Floodwater entered the cellars of Employees Colony and Shivasai Colony. Several cars and two-wheelers were submerged in the basements. As a result, residents panicked and rushed to move their vehicles and belongings to safer areas.
Prompt Action by Authorities
Fortunately, a nearby stream called Pandena Vagu diverted part of the floodwater. Otherwise, water would have spread to more colonies, according to locals. Meanwhile, officials responded quickly after receiving information about the incident.
Municipal staff, police personnel, fire services, and HYDRA teams reached the spot and began relief operations. They worked to control the water flow and prevent further damage.
Traffic Disrupted After Road Damage
The powerful water flow damaged a stretch of road near the burst point. Consequently, vehicle movement slowed down in the area. Authorities diverted traffic to alternative routes to ease congestion.
Officials are assessing the damage and planning repair works. Residents have urged authorities to fix the pipeline permanently to avoid similar incidents in the future.
