Narasaraopet: Former YSRCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother Venkatarami Reddy were remanded to judicial custody on Thursday in connection with the sensational double murder case of TDP leaders in Macherla. The Additional Junior Civil Judge Court in Macherla ordered 14 days of remand, following which the duo was shifted to the Nellore district jail under tight security.
Duo Surrenders After Supreme Court Direction
Earlier in the day, both brothers surrendered before the Macherla court, complying with the Supreme Court’s directive. Their anticipatory bail petitions were previously dismissed by the High Court as well as the Apex Court, which instructed them to surrender within two weeks.
Case Background: A Double Murder That Shocked Palnadu
The case traces back to May 24, when TDP leaders Javvishetty Venkateswara Rao and Javvishetty Koteswara Rao, both belonging to Guntur district’s Gundlapadu village in Veldurthi mandal, were brutally murdered. The incident created widespread tension in the Macherla constituency.
Police later booked Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother as A6 and A7 in the case. Investigators alleged that the brothers played a key role in the conspiracy and escalation of political violence in the region.
Political Tensions Rise as Case Moves Forward
The surrender and arrest of the Pinnelli brothers triggered intense political discussions across Andhra Pradesh. While TDP leaders termed it a “step towards justice,” YSRCP cadre argued that the arrests were politically motivated. The double murder case continues to draw attention as one of the most politically charged incidents in the Palnadu region.
What Happens Next?
With the brothers now lodged in Nellore jail, the police are expected to intensify their investigation. Further hearings are scheduled in the coming days, during which the prosecution may seek custody for interrogation if required.
The state is closely watching the legal and political developments surrounding this high-profile case.
