Valmidi village in Palakurthi mandal of Jangaon district, known as the sacred land where sage Valmiki is believed to have lived, is now facing an alarming crisis due to a massive monkey menace. Thousands of monkeys have surrounded the village, creating fear and chaos among residents. What was once a peaceful rural settlement has turned into a zone of constant anxiety, with villagers struggling to step outside their homes.
The situation worsened recently when two large groups of monkeys clashed violently inside the village. The fierce fight shocked locals, as the animals attacked each other aggressively, leaving several injured and bleeding. The sudden eruption of violence sent panic through the village, forcing people to rush indoors for safety. Many residents described the scene as terrifying, comparing it to a battlefield.
Daily Life Disrupted as Fear Grips Residents
The monkey invasion has severely disrupted daily life in Valmidi. Groups of monkeys roam freely through streets, rooftops, and farmlands. They often enter houses, scatter household items, damage appliances, and snatch food. Farmers report heavy losses as the monkeys destroy standing crops, worsening their financial distress.
Fear now controls the routine of villagers. Children and elderly residents hesitate to walk alone on roads, worried about sudden attacks. Even stepping out for basic needs has become risky. Shopkeepers, especially grocery store owners, say the monkeys frequently barge into shops, damage goods, and scare customers away, affecting daily business.
Residents say the number of monkeys keeps increasing, with animals arriving from surrounding areas. With hundreds appearing at once, the village often resembles scenes from the Kishkindha Kanda of the Ramayana, locals remark, referring to the legendary monkey army.
The ongoing threat has pushed villagers to the brink. Many families stay most of the day, while others avoid sending children to run errands. The constant fear has taken a toll on mental peace and safety.
Villagers have now appealed strongly to forest and revenue officials to intervene immediately. They demand urgent measures to control the monkey population and protect lives, crops, and property. Locals warn that if authorities delay action, the situation could spiral further out of control.
The people of Valmidi hope swift government intervention will restore safety and normal life to their historic village.
