A major boost to sports infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh came on Monday with the foundation stone being laid for the MSK Prasad International Cricket Academy in Amaravati. Developers will build the academy across 12 acres at Pitchukalapalem, envisioning it as a world-class training hub to nurture the next generation of cricketing talent.
Former Indian cricketer and former chief selector MSK Prasad, along with his family members, participated in the foundation ceremony. The project, supported by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA), aims to transform Amaravati into a centre for sports excellence.
Speaking at the event, MSK Prasad said the academy would offer state-of-the-art facilities designed to meet international standards. “This 12-acre campus will not only provide professional cricket training but also focus on holistic athlete development with a balance of academics, sports, and wellness,” he said.
Cricket Academy to feature world-class amenities
The proposed International Cricket Academy in Amaravati will include:
- A modern indoor training academy equipped with advanced nets and performance analysis systems, accommodating 400 trainees.
- An international residential school integrating academics with sports training, with a capacity for 1,000 students.
- Hostel and accommodation facilities for players and visiting teams.
- A mini cricket stadium to host domestic and youth tournaments.
- Modern gyms, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation centres for athlete recovery.
- Indoor and outdoor training zones with advanced fitness and conditioning systems.
- An Olympic-standard swimming pool and wellness amenities for overall athlete health.
Officials from APCRDA stated that the project aligns with the government’s broader vision of developing Amaravati as a sports and education hub. The authority is extending full technical and logistical support to ensure the timely execution of the project. The establishment of the MSK Prasad International Cricket Academy marks a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s journey toward building world-class sports infrastructure. Once it becomes operational, the academy in APCRDA will attract young talent from across India and establish Amaravati as a premier destination for sports training and excellence.
