Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced a reward of ₹2.5 crore, a 1,000-square-yard residential plot, and a Group-I government post for Sree Charani, a key member of India’s ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 winning team.
Charani met the Chief Minister and IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh at the camp office in Amaravati, where both leaders congratulated her on her historic achievement. CM Naidu lauded her for showcasing the power and determination of Indian women on the world stage.
During the meeting, Charani and former India captain Mithali Raj presented a signed T-shirt from the victorious squad to CM Naidu as a token of gratitude.

Sree Charani receives rousing welcome at Vijayawada Airport
Earlier, Sree Charani received a grand reception at Vijayawada airport in Gannavaram, where she was welcomed by Ministers Vangalapudi Anita, S Savita, and Gummadi Sandhyarani, along with Andhra Cricket Association president Kesineni Shivanath, secretary Sana Satish, and SAAP chairman Animini Ravinaidu.
Sree Charani turns India’s fortunes at the Cricket World Cup
A left-arm orthodox spinner from Erramalle village in Kadapa district, Charani played a pivotal role in India’s maiden Women’s World Cup victory. She featured in all nine matches, taking 14 wickets at an economy rate of 4.96, finishing as India’s second-highest wicket-taker and fourth overall in the tournament.
In the semifinal against Australia, she bowled a tight spell, claiming 2 for 49 in a high-pressure encounter, after having taken 3 for 41 against them in the league stage. In the final against South Africa, her crucial dismissal of Anneke Bosch helped India maintain control during the middle overs.
Charani’s consistency, composure, and control during the death overs drew praise from analysts and former cricketers alike, with many calling her the “breakthrough star” of the World Cup.
Pride of Kadapa
Becoming the first cricketer from her region to play in a World Cup final, Sree Charani has become a symbol of pride for Kadapa district and Andhra Pradesh. Her success has inspired hundreds of aspiring players from rural areas to dream big and pursue cricket professionally.
After announcing a reward for Sree Charani, Chief Minister Naidu, in his remarks, said the government would “stand firmly behind every young talent who brings glory to the State,” reaffirming Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to promoting women’s sports.
