A key political development unfolded in the Atmakur municipality of Nandyal district as Municipal Chairperson Dr Maruf Aasia resigned from her post. She also stepped down from the membership of the YSR Congress Party. Dr Aasia said she chose public service over politics after her selection as a Medical Officer at the Government Hospital in Atmakur.
Dr Maruf Aasia assumed charge as chairperson five years ago on a YSR Congress Party ticket. During her tenure, she focused on civic works and local development. However, she decided to leave her elected office to take up her new role in the health department.
Joins Government Service
According to her statement, she recently received an appointment as a Medical Officer at the Atmakur Government Hospital. Therefore, she opted to resign so she could join duty without holding a political position. She stated that serving patients as a government doctor aligns more closely with her commitment to public welfare.
Letters Sent to State Leaders
Dr Aasia informed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy about her decision through formal letters. She clarified that her resignation stems from professional commitments rather than political differences.
Resignation Sent to District Collector
The Municipal In-Charge Commissioner forwarded her resignation letter to the District Collector for further action. Officials will now initiate the necessary administrative process to fill the vacant post as per municipal regulations.
This development marks a significant shift in Atmakur’s local politics. While Dr Aasia exits the political arena for now, she begins a new chapter in government medical service, emphasising her priority for direct public care.
