India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the prestigious Speaker of the Knesset Medal, the highest honour conferred by the Knesset. With this recognition, he becomes the first global leader and the first Indian Prime Minister to receive the award.

The Israeli Parliament presented the medal in recognition of Modi’s leadership in strengthening strategic ties between India and Israel. On February 25, 2026, after addressing the Knesset, Speaker Amir Ohana formally conferred the honour. The award highlights the growing partnership between the two nations across multiple sectors.
Award Dedicated to 1.4 Billion Indians
Prime Minister Modi stated that the honour was not a personal achievement. Instead, he dedicated the award to 1.4 billion Indians and to the enduring friendship between India and Israel. He emphasised that the recognition reflects the shared democratic values and mutual trust between the two countries.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Relations between India and Israel have expanded significantly in recent years. In 2017, Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel. Since then, the partnership has evolved into a strong strategic alliance. Both countries have deepened cooperation in defence, agriculture, technology, innovation, and space research.
Moreover, regular high-level exchanges have further reinforced diplomatic and economic collaboration. As a result, bilateral ties now extend well beyond traditional defence cooperation.
