Workers’ unions across India launched a nationwide strike today to protest against the central government’s policies. More than ten major workers’ and farmers’ organisations support this bandh. The unions claim the government favours corporations over labourers and farmers, which sparked this massive protest. Nearly 30 crore workers are expected to join the strike.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha fully supports the protest and stands with the workers. The bandh may disrupt services in government banks, insurance, transport, electricity, coal, and gas sectors.
The unions demand the repeal of the new labour codes, the withdrawal of 100% FDI in insurance, and a stop to privatisation. Authorities have exempted hospitals, ambulances, pharmacies, and milk supply to ensure emergency services run smoothly. Private offices, IT companies, schools, and colleges are likely to operate as usual.
This strike shows growing anger among workers and farmers, as unions push for policies that protect jobs and prevent corporate overreach.
