Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 presented the Union Budget 2026 in Parliament, branding it as a “Youth Power Budget” that focuses on empowering young Indians while supporting farmers, tribals, and Dalits. The budget places employment, skills, and inclusive growth at the core of India’s economic roadmap as the nation advances toward becoming the world’s largest economy.

Sitharaman said the budget reflects India’s stronger economic position and improved financial discipline. She stressed that the government now depends more on domestic demand and innovation rather than export-led growth. The budget prioritises job creation, entrepreneurship, and skill development to prepare youth for global competition.

The finance minister outlined three guiding responsibilities behind the budget. These include accelerating growth, ensuring social justice, and strengthening India’s workforce. Education reforms, skill programs, and startup support received special attention to help young citizens contribute to long-term development.

The budget also reinforces welfare support for farmers and marginalised communities. Sitharaman highlighted better credit access, rural infrastructure expansion, and targeted schemes for tribal and Dalit populations. The government aims to ensure that economic growth reaches every section of society.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the budget and noted India’s progress in economic stability. He said consistent reforms and people-focused policies have strengthened the nation’s foundation. Modi reiterated the goal of transforming India into a developed country through sustained growth.

Following the presentation, the Union Cabinet approved the budget without delay. The government expects the proposals to boost India’s global standing by improving productivity, competitiveness, and investment confidence.

Later in the day, Sitharaman met President Droupadi Murmu and shared brief moments of interaction, marking the significance of the budget session. The presentation underlined both policy intent and national vision.

Overall, the Union Budget 2026 reflects the government’s commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” With youth empowerment at its centre, the budget charts a clear path toward inclusive growth and long-term economic strength.
