A woman excise constable was seriously injured while trying to stop a ganja smuggling gang on the outskirts of Nizamabad. The incident took place at Madhavanagar when the constable attempted to intercept a suspicious car carrying illegal cannabis. Acting on prior intelligence, excise police had set up surveillance in the area to catch the smugglers red-handed.
Officials said the vehicle was operated by a gang from Nirmal district and was being used to transport a large quantity of ganja. When the car approached the checkpoint, woman constable Soumya stepped forward and signalled the driver to stop. Instead of slowing down, the accused sped up and rammed the car into her. She fell to the ground with severe injuries.

A detailed search of the car led to the seizure of a large quantity of ganja.
