OpenAI will introduce a new feature called ‘Adult Mode’ in ChatGPT in the first quarter of 2026. The feature will target only adult users and include strict safety controls.
OpenAI Applications CEO Fidji Simo announced the update during a meeting on the GPT-5.2 model. She said only age-verified adults can access the feature. The company is testing the age verification process in selected countries.
OpenAI will keep Adult Mode disabled by default for all users. Users must request access and complete age verification to enable it. The company will also apply content limits to ensure responsible use.
Simo said OpenAI is taking strong steps to block minors from using the feature. She added that user safety remains a top priority.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the announcement on X. He said the company aims to handle sensitive content responsibly while maintaining transparency.
With this move, OpenAI plans to improve content control while reinforcing its commitment to ethical AI use.
