New Delhi: Delhi Police carried out a massive crackdown under ‘Operation Aaghat 3.0’ in the South-East district, seizing weapons, drugs, illegal liquor and mobile phones. The operation took place on Saturday ahead of New Year celebrations, when public movement usually increases.
Police officials said the special drive aimed to curb street crime, organised gangs and habitual offenders. More than 600 police personnel participated in the operation across the district.
Hundreds Apprehended in Major Crackdown
During the operation, Delhi Police arrested 331 people under the Delhi Excise Act, NDPS Act and Public Gambling Act. Officials also apprehended 504 people under various preventive provisions.
Police detained 116 known “bad characters”, arrested five auto-lifters, and caught four proclaimed offenders. Authorities also took action against 1,306 people under the Delhi Police Act.
Arms, Drugs and Cash Seized
Police recovered a large cache of weapons under the Arms Act. The seized items included 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives.
As part of the anti-drug drive, police seized 6.01 kg of ganja. They also recovered ₹2.36 lakh in cash from gambling activities. Officials confiscated 12,258 quarters of illegal liquor during the operation.
Vehicles and Mobile Phones Recovered
Police seized six two-wheelers, one four-wheeler, and 310 mobile phones. In addition, authorities seized 231 two-wheelers for traffic and other violations.
Street Crime on the Decline
Officials said PCR calls related to street crime have reduced in the South-East district over the past month. They credited the decline to intensified patrolling, vehicle checks and night surveillance.
Delhi Police stated that similar operations will continue to ensure public safety during the festive season and beyond.
