Festive Travel Triggers Heavy Traffic
Pantangi Toll Plaza experienced a huge rush as city residents travelled to their hometowns for the Sankranti festival. A long weekend and continuous holidays encouraged people to begin their journeys early. As a result, highways connecting Telangana and Andhra Pradesh saw heavy traffic from Saturday onwards.
60,000 Vehicles Crossed in a Single Day
Toll plaza officials confirmed that nearly 60,000 vehicles crossed from Hyderabad towards Andhra Pradesh on Saturday alone. The rush increased further on Sunday due to weekend travel. Families preferred private vehicles for comfort and flexibility during festive travel.
Hyderabad–Vijayawada Highway Under Pressure
The Hyderabad–Vijayawada national highway turned extremely busy as thousands took to the roads. Cars, buses, and commercial vehicles moved slowly due to congestion. Traffic density remained high throughout the day, especially near toll plazas and junctions.
Nandigama Traffic Jam Adds to Trouble
Meanwhile, road construction work caused severe traffic congestion at Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh. Lane restrictions slowed vehicle movement, leading to long queues. Many commuters faced delays and expressed frustration over the slow progress.
Extra Toll Booths Opened to Ease Congestion
To manage the surge, authorities opened additional toll booths at Pantangi for vehicles heading towards Andhra Pradesh. Officials also deployed extra staff to speed up toll collection. Despite these efforts, congestion continued during peak hours.
Authorities Issue Travel Advisory
Officials advised travelers to plan their journeys carefully and avoid peak travel times. They also urged motorists to follow lane discipline and traffic rules. The heavy rush is expected to continue until the Sankranti holidays end.
