Ahead of the start of the Parliament Budget Session, the Union government will hold an all-party meeting at 11 am today to seek cooperation from all political parties. The Centre wants smooth functioning of both Houses during the session, which will begin with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament.

Centre Seeks Cooperation Before Budget Session

The government plans to brief opposition leaders on the session agenda during the meeting. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is expected to request constructive debate and minimal disruptions. Leaders from major political parties will attend the discussion.

The Budget Session is crucial as it will focus on economic priorities and key reforms. Political tensions are likely, but the Centre hopes dialogue will ensure productive proceedings.

Economic Survey and Sunday Budget Presentation

The Union government will table the Economic Survey on January 29. The document will outline India’s economic performance and growth outlook. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1.

This Budget presentation will be historic. For the first time, the Finance Minister will present the Union Budget on a Sunday.

Two-Phase Budget Session Schedule

Parliament will hold the Budget Session in two phases. The first phase will run from January 28 to February 13. During this period, members will debate the Budget and key policies.

The second phase will begin on March 9 and conclude on April 2. Lawmakers will discuss demands for grants and vote on proposed legislation during this stage.

Opposition Gears Up for Confrontation

Opposition parties are preparing to challenge the government on several issues. These include the proposed name change of the rural employment guarantee scheme and concerns related to Special Identification Reports.

These topics are expected to trigger sharp debates in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Key Reform Bills Likely in This Session

The Centre plans to introduce several important reform bills. Sources suggest the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill on simultaneous elections may come up for discussion. A Joint Parliamentary Committee is currently reviewing the proposal.

The government may also table the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill to push education reforms. In addition, the Securities Markets Code Bill could be introduced to overhaul financial market regulations.

With major economic decisions and politically sensitive bills on the agenda, the Budget Session is expected to play a key role in shaping policy direction for the year ahead.
