A tragic incident at Vijayawada Government General Hospital has triggered shock and concern across medical circles. Dr Deepika, a PG final-year medical student, died under suspicious circumstances within the hospital premises, raising serious questions about safety and working conditions.
The incident came to light in the early hours, prompting immediate attention from the state government and police authorities. As news spread, fellow doctors and students expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss.
Minister Responds, Orders Detailed Investigation
Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav reacted swiftly after learning about the incident. He directed Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dr Deepika’s death. The minister made it clear that officials must examine every possible angle without leaving any gaps.
Soon after, the minister spoke directly with hospital superintendent Dr Yedukondala Rao to gather first-hand details. He assured that the government would stand firmly with the bereaved family and would not spare anyone found responsible.
Events Leading Up to the Incident
According to hospital officials, the incident unfolded late at night. Around 1 a.m., a junior PG doctor approached Dr Deepika to discuss a surgery-related case. At that time, she reportedly complained of nausea and took an injection for relief.
Later, when colleagues tried to contact her, she did not respond to phone calls. This raised concern among staff members. Shortly afterwards, doctors found her in an unconscious state in the emergency ward.
Doctors Tried to Save Her Life
Medical teams immediately initiated treatment and made efforts to stabilise her condition. Despite their attempts, Dr Deepika’s health deteriorated. She eventually passed away in the early hours of the morning.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the police have begun their inquiry and are collecting all relevant details, including medical records and CCTV footage.
Government Assures Support to Family
Minister Satyakumar Yadav reiterated that the government would provide full support to Dr Deepika’s family during this difficult time. He also emphasised that accountability remains a priority and promised strict action if negligence or wrongdoing emerges during the probe.
As investigations continue, the tragic death has once again highlighted concerns around stress, long working hours, and safety within government hospitals. The medical community now awaits clear answers and justice for the young doctor.
