Prime Minister Narendra Modi was deeply moved after hearing the Indian cultural anthem “Vande Mataram” performed on Ethiopian soil, marking a memorable moment during his official visit to Ethiopia.
PM Modi was conferred with Ethiopia’s highest civilian honour, “The Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia,” by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali at a grand ceremony held at the Addis International Convention Center on Tuesday. The prestigious award recognized Modi’s contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and global leadership.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi attended a banquet hosted by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. During the event, Ethiopian singers rendered “Vande Mataram,” creating an emotional and symbolic moment. Hearing the iconic Indian anthem in a foreign land visibly delighted the Prime Minister.
PM Modi warmly thanked the singers and applauded their performance. Later, he shared the touching experience on social media, calling it a special and unforgettable moment. He noted that the rendition held even greater significance as “Vande Mataram completes 150 years since its creation.”
The moment reflected the deep cultural respect and growing friendship between India and Ethiopia. It also highlighted how Indian culture continues to resonate across borders, evoking pride and emotion even far from home.
