Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Indian-origin cricketers representing different countries in the T20 World Cup 2026 during his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat. He said that no matter which jersey they wear, their blood remains Indian.

He added that the nation feels proud whenever players with Indian roots shine on the global stage, even if they represent foreign teams.

“Indian Blood, Global Jerseys”

The Prime Minister emphasised that talent and hard work connect people beyond borders. Although these players compete for other nations, their achievements bring pride to India. He noted that sports create emotional bonds that go beyond geography and nationality.

According to him, the success of Indian-origin athletes proves the strength of India’s cultural roots worldwide.

Global Ambassadors of Indianness

PM Modi described the Indian diaspora as “global ambassadors of Indianness.” He said people of Indian origin contribute to the development of their adopted countries, which he called their Karmabhoomi (land of work), while still respecting their Matribhoomi (motherland).

He highlighted that this balance of identity and contribution reflects the spirit of modern India.

Players from Canada and the USA

The Prime Minister specifically mentioned several players in the T20 World Cup 2026. From Canada, he praised captain Dilpreet Bajwa from Punjab, Navneet Dhaliwal from Chandigarh, Harsh Thaker, and Shreyas Movva.

From the United States, he highlighted Saurabh Netravalkar from Mumbai, Harmeet Singh from Delhi, Milind Kumar, and captain Monank Patel, who earlier played domestic cricket in Gujarat.

Contributions from Other Nations

PM Modi also acknowledged Indian-origin players representing Oman, the UAE, New Zealand, and Italy. He said their participation shows how deeply cricket connects the Indian diaspora to the sport and to their heritage.

Special Recognition for Young Achiever

The Prime Minister gave special praise to Yuvraj Samra, an Indian-origin cricketer who became the youngest player in T20 World Cup history to score a century. He described the achievement as inspirational for young athletes across the world.

Sports Unite People

Concluding his address, PM Modi said, “Only those who play truly grow.” He stressed that sports unite people, inspire discipline, and build character.

Through his message in Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister celebrated not just victories, but also the global presence and growing influence of Indian-origin athletes in world cricket.
