Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the famous Narasapuram lace craft of Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted its cultural and economic value during his Mann Ki Baat programme on Sunday.
Following the Prime Minister’s remarks, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu thanked him on social media. He welcomed the national recognition given to this traditional art form.
Traditional Craft Gets National Attention
During his address, Prime Minister Modi said traditional arts strengthen rural economies. He noted that Narasapuram lace reflects India’s rich heritage and skilled craftsmanship. He also reminded listeners that the craft has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, which protects its identity.
Women Artisans at the Core
CM Chandrababu Naidu praised the women artisans who have preserved this craft for generations. He said their dedication keeps the tradition alive and relevant today. He also assured full government support to promote the lace industry further.
Employment Boost in Rural Areas
Prime Minister Modi explained that the Andhra Pradesh government and NABARD are working together to support artisans. They provide training and market access to expand the craft.
As a result, artisans now produce over 500 lace products. Nearly one lakh women from 250 villages earn their livelihood through Narasapuram lace.
With this recognition from the Prime Minister, the craft is likely to gain wider exposure. Experts believe it will help boost rural employment and preserve cultural heritage in Andhra Pradesh.
