A shocking crime driven by a property dispute has come to light near Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, where a man brutally murdered his father, sister, and minor niece before dumping their bodies in a well. Police have arrested the accused, Mukesh Patel, the eldest son of the family.
According to police officials, the incident occurred in Lokapur village after Mukesh Patel grew furious over his father’s decision to register family property in the name of his younger brother, Mukund Lal. The dispute had been ongoing for several months and frequently led to heated arguments within the family.
On Friday night, Mukesh went to his father Ramasingh’s house and picked a fight over the property issue. During the argument, he strangled his 60-year-old father to death. When his sister Sadhna tried to intervene, Mukesh attacked her with an axe and killed her on the spot. He also murdered her 14-year-old daughter, Astha, who witnessed the violence.
To destroy evidence, the accused dragged the three bodies to an abandoned well near the house and dumped them inside. He then covered the well with hay in an attempt to hide the crime.
The violence did not end there. On Saturday, Mukesh targeted his younger brother Mukund and opened fire at him. Mukund survived the attack with injuries and later approached the police, reporting both the shooting and the disappearance of his father and sister.
Police took Mukesh into custody in connection with the shooting. During interrogation, he confessed to the triple murder. Acting on his disclosure, police conducted a three-day search and recovered the decomposed bodies from the well. They also seized the axe used in the killings and the firearm used in the attack on Mukund.
Mukesh Patel has been sent to judicial custody, while the injured younger brother is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region and once again highlighted how property disputes can destroy family bonds and lead to extreme violence.
