Punjab created a major upset in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 by defeating Mumbai by just one run. The thrilling match took place at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur and kept fans on edge until the final delivery.
Punjab Struggle but Post a Fighting Total
Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. His bowlers dominated the early stages and kept Punjab under pressure. Punjab lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build long partnerships.
However, Ramandeep Singh played a crucial knock of 72 runs. Anmolpreet Singh also supported well with 57 runs. Their efforts helped Punjab reach 216 runs before getting bowled out in 45.1 overs.
Musheer Khan led Mumbai’s bowling attack with three wickets. Shivam Dube and Shashank Attarde picked up two wickets each.
Mumbai Take Control During the Chase
Mumbai started the chase confidently. Openers Musheer Khan and Angkrish Raghuvanshi added 57 runs for the first wicket. Their partnership gave Mumbai a strong base.
Sarfaraz Khan then turned the game explosive. He smashed 62 runs off just 20 balls and put Punjab under serious pressure. Captain Shreyas Iyer added a steady 45 runs. At one stage, Mumbai raced to 191 for four wickets and needed only 25 runs to win.
Punjab Bowlers Trigger Stunning Collapse
Just when Mumbai looked set for victory, Punjab struck back with the ball. Gurnoor Brar and Mayank Markande bowled tight spells and applied pressure. The fifth wicket fell at 191, and the momentum shifted instantly.
Mumbai collapsed dramatically after that. The team lost its final six wickets for just 24 runs. Punjab bowled Mumbai out for 215 and sealed a shocking one-run win.
Brar and Markande Seal Historic Win
Gurnoor Brar and Mayank Markande starred with four wickets each. Harpreet Brar and Harnoor Singh chipped in with one wicket apiece. Their combined effort dismantled a strong Mumbai batting lineup.
Punjab’s fighting spirit turned the match on its head. Despite Sarfaraz Khan’s brilliant knock, Mumbai suffered a heartbreaking defeat. This match will remain one of the most dramatic moments in Vijay Hazare Trophy history.
