Box Office Triumph in Japan
Tokyo, Japan – Allu Arjun’s blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule has made a remarkable mark at the Japanese box office. In just two weeks after its January 16, 2026 release, the film earned around ₹6.03 to ₹6.1 crore (104.5 million yen). This performance places it among the top 10 highest-grossing Indian films in Japan.
Breaking Records of the Past
Pushpa 2 broke the decade-long record previously held by Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3, which had stayed in the top 10 since 2014. However, the list is still led by RRR (2.42 billion yen), followed by Muthu, Baahubali 2, 3 Idiots, and English Vinglish.
Audience Response in Major Cities
The film received a strong response in Tokyo and Osaka. Audiences praised Allu Arjun’s signature style, intense action sequences, and Sukumar’s direction. Collections started steadily, but positive word of mouth caused ticket sales to rise sharply over the first two weeks.
Storyline and Cast Highlights
Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa 2 follows Pushpa Raj as he rises in the red sandalwood smuggling world. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead, and Fahadh Faasil appears in a pivotal role. The story, combined with high production value, has captivated Japanese viewers.
Growing Presence of Indian Cinema in Japan
Pushpa 2’s success shows that Indian films are gaining popularity in Japan. Upcoming releases like Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, are also set to premiere there. This indicates a growing appetite for both Bollywood and South Indian cinema in the Japanese market.
