Tension prevailed at Eluru Medical College after students raised serious concerns over recurring incidents of ragging on campus. According to students, frequent harassment by seniors has created an unsafe and stressful environment, leading to widespread protests.
Reports suggest that during preparations for the college’s annual celebrations, an argument broke out among students, further exposing the ongoing ragging issue. As the institution functions as a co-education college, girl students alleged that such incidents have been happening repeatedly, with seniors exerting dominance over juniors and causing emotional distress.
Several junior students, especially girl students, expressed anguish, stating that they have been facing this problem for months. Due to the increasing severity of the situation, students have reportedly filed a formal complaint with the police.
Students also criticized the college warden, claiming that the doctor currently serving in the role has been neglecting such serious issues. They alleged that staff members responsible for maintaining discipline are not taking corrective action even when students make mistakes that require proper guidance.
Additionally, hostel students complained about poor hostel facilities, stating that lack of proper amenities is causing further inconvenience.
Upon receiving information, the police reached the campus, interacted with the students, and conducted counselling sessions. Second Town CI Ashok Kumar warned that strict action would be taken if such incidents repeat, stressing that ragging could destroy students’ futures and must be completely eradicated.
