In a major crackdown on corruption, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught three government officials red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh in Rangareddy district of Telangana. The incident took place at the MPDO office in Nandigama mandal, triggering shock among local residents.
Officials Demanded ₹3.5 Lakh for House Construction Approval
According to ACB officials, Nandigama MPDO Sumathi, APO Tej Singh, and Eidulapalli village secretary Chennaiyya demanded a bribe of ₹3.5 lakh from a man named Bobbili Praveen. The officials allegedly sought the money in exchange for clearing files related to the construction of a residential building in Eidulapalli village.
Initially, Praveen paid ₹1 lakh to the officials under pressure. However, the officials continued to demand the remaining amount and repeatedly harassed him. Unable to tolerate the demand, Praveen approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and lodged a formal complaint.
ACB Lays Trap, Catches Officials Red-Handed
Acting swiftly on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap at the MPDO office in Nandigama on Tuesday. As planned, Praveen handed over another installment of ₹1 lakh to the officials. At that moment, the ACB team raided the office and caught MPDO Sumathi, APO Tej Singh, and secretary Chennaiyya while accepting the bribe.
Following the arrest, ACB officials conducted searches at the MPDO office and seized relevant documents and cash. The operation confirmed that the bribe demand was linked directly to official duties.
Case Registered, Investigation Underway
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a case against all three officials under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway to identify whether similar bribe demands were made to others in the mandal.
Meanwhile, senior ACB officers reiterated that strict action will be taken against corrupt officials, regardless of their position. They also urged citizens to report bribery demands without fear.
This incident once again highlights the ACB’s intensified efforts to curb corruption in government offices and ensure transparency in public services.
